Blond

A bespoke digital platform for an award-winning strategic design studio, built to hold a broad and evolving portfolio with precision and control.

Blond are a London-based strategic design studio working across product, brand, spaces, and digital. We worked with the team to translate a static design into a fully bespoke digital platform — consulting on interaction design, scroll behaviour, and responsive layout, and building a custom CMS that gives the studio complete control over how their work is presented.

Overview

Blond came to us with a clear visual direction, embedded with the same precision they bring to both their physical and digital work. The team knew how the site should look and what it needed to communicate, but the question of how it would actually behave in a browser remained open. That gap — between a designed layout and a responsive, interactive experience — is where much of our contribution sat. We consulted on interaction design, scroll behaviour, and the pacing of content across breakpoints, bringing the hands-on experience needed to ensure a strong visual concept could translate into something considered on every device and screen size.

The Challenge

The portfolio presented a structural challenge. With work spanning four disciplines and a client list that includes both household names and emerging startups, the site needed to be flexible enough to present widely varied content without flattening it. Some projects could be shown in full; others, bound by confidentiality agreements with clients such as Meta, Sony, and LG, could only be acknowledged. The architecture had to accommodate both, and be able to do so consistently across devices.

Our Approach

The entire site was built bespoke, with a focus on how content is curated, displayed, and experienced. No frameworks, no templates — every interaction written from scratch. This allowed us to develop the kind of detail that would be difficult to achieve with off-the-shelf tools.

A key feature of the site is the showreel on land, which presents a rapid sequence of imagery and video from across the portfolio, cycling at 350 milliseconds per slide. Making this work reliably meant building a scheduled loader that prioritises ready content and progressively enriches the experience as the connection allows.

Scroll behaviour, transitions, and micro-interactions were developed to give the site a cohesion that carries across the portfolio and into the Archive, a list-based index of the studio's complete body of work with image previews on hover.

Beneath the front end, we built a comprehensive custom CMS giving the team full editorial control over layout, content, and the degree of visibility for each project — essential for a studio managing confidentiality agreements across a large and varied client base.

The Outcome

With refined interactions and a considered user experience across the front end, the custom CMS is also intuitive enough for the team to manage day-to-day. This makes it straightforward to build, update, and curate project pages without compromise — controlling exactly what is shown, how it is presented, and when it goes live.

Subtle micro interactions, consistent behaviour across devices, and an architecture that continues to hold as the portfolio grows all contribute to a site that feels as intentional as the work it houses.

Blond's audience is as varied as their output, and the site meets that range — presenting each discipline with the same level of care, and giving every project the space it needs.
